JSpaceCanada applauds the news that the Canadian Foreign Affairs Committee has passed a motion to study steps toward Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine.

We have advocated for the recognition of a State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel, as per Canada’s stated foreign policy of a two-state solution since February and are heartened to see action being taken.

“We know that the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a two-state solution, with an independent Jewish state alongside a Palestinian state,” says JSpaceCanada Executive Director, Maytal Kowalski. “We thank the Foreign Affairs Committee for listening to the voices of Canadian Jews who seek peace, safety, and security for the seven million Jews and seven million Palestinians for whom the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea is home.”

We call on the Canadian government to prioritize this study on Palestinian statehood and continue to lead, as a peacebuilding nation, toward a diplomatic resolution to this conflict through a two-state solution, with a sovereign Palestinian state alongside a Jewish state.
