This prestigious award recognizes exceptional individuals who have showcased a steadfast commitment to defending and upholding the principles of democracy, particularly in these times of burgeoning global threats to its very foundation.
This year, the award is being bestowed upon a diverse and outstanding group of leaders who have exemplified an unwavering dedication to democratic values and human rights. The 2023 honorees are:
1. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy - A beacon of resilience and leadership, President Zelenskyy has epitomized the defense of democratic values, demonstrating unyielding courage and dedication to the principles of freedom and self-determination.
2. Major General Yair Golan (Ret.) - With a distinguished military career, Major General Golan has transitioned into a fervent advocate for democracy and civil rights. 5. Israeli Protest Leader Shikma Bressler - A stalwart in the Israeli civil society, Shikma Bressler has been an active voice in the fight for democracy. Through her leadership in Israel’s democratic protest movement, she has played a crucial role in mobilizing citizens to stand up for justice, equality, and democratic principles.
